Ligularia dentata 'Othello'

Leopard plants are a favorite for shade gardens when a bold foliar statement is needed. 'Othello' provides that with its bronzy-hued, rounded leaves that can grow up to 12 inches across, and stand two to three feet tall on reddish stems. Bright yellow, daisy-like flowers emerge in the summer and may continue into the fall, providing a stark contrast against the dark foliage. That said, the amount of sun will affect the color of the leaves and the amount of flowers. Deep shade will keep the leaves green with purple veining while partial sun brings out the purple hues and more blooms. Ligularia is tolerant of wet soil, and adds a lush tropical look to pond edges and streams, but does equally well in borders and container planters.
