Juniperus horizontalis 'Mother Lode' 4 Inch

Gardeners who dislike junipers on principle may change their minds when they see 'Mother Lode' juniper, a ground-hugging, soft-textured variety with bright yellow foliage in warmer weather that takes on reddish hues in the fall and winter. Like all junipers, 'Mother Lode' is evergreen, drought tolerant once established, hardy down to -40 degrees, and low-maintenance. Topping out around six inches in height, this variety can spread up to four feet wide, so consider using this evergreen in year-round planters for fall and winter interest, on retaining walls, or in drier parts of the garden that miss watering. On a much larger scale, 'Mother Lode' juniper is an excellent choice for xeriscaping and erosion control on hillsides.
