Hyacinth 'Purple Sensation'

Crocuses are usually the first bulbs to flower after the dark days of winter, but hyacinths confirm that brighter days are ahead. Hyacinth 'Purple Sensation' not only perfumes the air with its lovely scent, but flaunts a bit, with bright amethyst blooms that stand tall above its fresh green foliage. As is true of most bulbs, 'Purple Sensation' puts on a show for just a few weeks, then quietly exits until next spring. Grow these in pots that can be tucked away out of sight once the plant is done blooming. A variation on this is to sink the pots (terra cotta works well) in the ground so that the rim is barely visible. Once the flowers are spent, lift the pot from the ground and move to a less visible part of the garden until next year.
