Alternanthera 'Purple Prince'

Technically a perennial, 'Purple Prince' alternanthera is a bit too tender to survive our Pacific NW winters, so we recommend using it as a glorious touch of intense color in summer container planters, hanging baskets and garden borders. Mounding up to 16 inches tall and spreading up to 20 inches wide, it can also drape itself over the sides of retaining walls and planters, creating a swath of dark purple and red foliage. Pair with chartreuse foliage or flowers such as 'Lemon Fizz' santolina or 'Picasso in Purple' petunias for a bold contrast. Used to much warmer climates, 'Purple Prince' alternanthera is a sun- and heat-lover, and can handle a missed watering once established.
