CloseJacob's Ladder adds texture and color to shadier gardens with its unusual variegated, fern-like foliage, so precise on erect stems that it does resemble ladders. Eventually forming a clump about 18" tall and up to 24" wide, this shade perennial also bears violet blue flowers on tall stalks in late spring to mid-summer. Removing spent flowers will keep things tidy, and may encourage a repeat bloom. While the flowers are pretty, the foliage is the main attraction of Jacob's Ladder, and provides a striking centerpiece in container planters or along shady borders.
