CloseQuite honestly, we've seen many gardeners walk away from 'Spotty Dotty' as soon as they "spot" the price. However, those who could not resist this shade-loving perennial's unique looks have nothing but praise for it. Spots are most pronounced on new chartreuse-colored leaves that become green and more palmate as the plant matures. The common name Mayapple comes from the fruit that may develop from the deep red, spring-blooming flowers. Those aren't easily seen, as they're usually hidden by the large palmate leaves. Not the fastest grower, 'Spotty Dotty' spreads slowly by underground rhizomes and does best with regular watering. Try growing this unusual specimen in a container, as it may be easier to spot the springtime blooms, and the plant will appreciate the loose soil.
