For those with west- or southwest-facing windows, False Aralia, aka Threadleaf Aralia, may be a good choice for you. The thin, finely divided leaves lend an airy, almost feathery look to areas that are too intense for ferns, and foliage darkens to a dramatic, almost black color as it matures. Alas, False Aralia is temperamental - temperature, light, and water must be consistent and "just right" for this plant to thrive. Don't be surprised if leaves start to fall off when the environment changes significantly, or you over-water. In spite of being something of a prima donna, False Aralia can provide years of indoor beauty and is well worth the effort!
