CloseOften known as Dwarf Mountain Pines, mugo pines tend to be slow and low-growing. Although some sources state that 'Valley Cushion' can eventually reach two to three feet in height, most gardeners will see this variety growing to about foot tall and spreading up to four feet wide at the 10-year mark. Give it lots of sun, well-draining soil, and 'Valley Cushion' should be a fairly low maintenance plant. This is an excellent choice for borders, containers, and as a bonsai, with small, tight needles and year-round interest.
