CloseNew Zealand Flax comes in a range of sizes and colors, and 'Platt's Black' is one of the darkest varieties available. Smaller than some of its cousins, this variety tops out around three to four feet tall and about as wide at maturity, so it does well in container planters for a season or two before needing to be moved out into the garden. Dark chocolate to almost black arching leaves last year-round, adding height to container planters as well as borders. Deer- and rabbit-resistant, 'Platt's Black' looks its best with ample sun and regular watering.
