Unlike its climbing cousins, this philodendron is a "self-header," growing in a rosette that is often much wider than it is tall.

CloseBringing in fresh houseplants is like getting a surprise birthday party. New varieties delight and inspire, and invariably add a new dimension to indoor gardens. 'Philodendron 'Rojo Congo' is a large leafed, non-climbing variety with new leaves emerging a rich red, then maturing to a reddish green. Usually wider than it is tall, 'Rojo Congo' will need its own container in order to achieve specimen size, anywhere from two to three feet tall and up to four feet wide. Like most tropical plants, 'Rojo Congo' will grow best in a well-lit room with higher humidity and thorough watering when the top inch of soil is dry. Periodic misting keeps the leaves fresh, but placing the pot on a pebble-filled saucer containing water may be easier.
