CloseThere are so many different varieties of philodendron these days, it's sometimes hard to accurately identify them. Overall size, the shape and texture of leaves, and coloration are frequent points of reference, but the line blurs often. 'Red Diamond' looks similar to 'Rojo Congo' as both have beautiful red stems and new growth emerges a deep red. Both are non-climbers, and form upright mounds. As far as we can tell, 'Rojo Congo' has the capacity to grow bigger than 'Red Diamond,' so for those with limited indoor space, 'Red Diamond' may be a better choice. Depending upon the environment, 'Red Diamond' grows fairly fast, topping out at one to two feet tall and wide. Older foliage darkens to a reddish green, contrasting nicely with the red stems. All philodendrons enjoy a well-lit room (but may tolerate lower light), prefer higher humidity than humans, and should be watered thoroughly when the top inch of soil is dry. Pets should be kept away from this family of tropical plants, as all will cause digestive distress.
