Wando's shelling pea was developed to be both frost tolerant and more heat tolerant than other varieties, so gardeners can most likely get an early spring crop and a fall harvest in as well. While these plants are supposed to get only three feet tall, some individuals have reported much taller vines, so providing a trellis or some other form of support is advised. That will also make harvesting the peas much easier. The grower suggests harvesting pea pods when they are plump, about three weeks after the flowers, as older pods will result in tough, less flavorful peas. Plants will on average yield pods that contain 7 - 9 peas each.
