When speaking to customers about Passion Flowers, they are indeed passionate! This vining perennial's flowers are so unique, so exotic, so entrancing, that gardeners fall in love with the large blooms that start in summer and keep going into the fall. We regard the Blue Passionflower as a deciduous perennial here in the Pacific NW, dying back in the winter, then emerging in the spring, growing anywhere from 10 to 25 feet tall. Though hardy down to zero degrees, passion flowers don't like wet feet, so some gardeners may lose their beloved vines if the soil doesn't drain well in the winter. Another tip - encourage a deep, extensive root system by watering your passion flower deeply but infrequently, letting the soil dry between watering. Finally, the Blue Passionflower blooms on new wood, so pruning should be done in the fall/winter or early spring, before new growth emerges.
