Few house plants are as fresh and exuberant as a healthy Boston Fern. Its long, feathery fronds will eventually create a flowing mound, up to three feet tall and wide, so give it plenty of room for an eye-catching display. A well-lit room, regular misting to raise the humidity, and watering thoroughly when the surface soil is dry will keep this fern happy. If grown in a planter, consider raising it up on a stand so its fronds can drape freely over the sides. Cat owners may wish to hang this air-purifying fern to keep the temptingly fluffy fronds out of reach, if only to protect the fern. Boston ferns are non-toxic to pets, but indiscriminate chewing will mar its good looks.
