Since we're not sure of the exact varieties in this blend, plant the starts 12" apart, just to give them all room to grow. Some may be only six inches across, but some varieties can be 10" - 12" across. Regardless of the variety, here are some basic rules of thumb.

First, lettuces are all frost tolerant, so as soon as the soil is workable and at least 40 degrees, put these starts out, either straight into the ground or into container planters, even hanging baskets. The hotter it gets, the more likely your lettuce will bolt/flower, and there goes all that great flavor. Second, we recommend giving every plant a head start with some of our dry organic fertilizer, Root Power. Mix it into the soil, pop in the start, and it's good to go. Finally, keep these lovely greens watered because let's face it, lettuce is a very juicy vegetable, and sitting out in the sun all day is a very drying proposition.

Lettuce is one of those veggies that can be harvested pretty quickly. If you enjoy baby greens, start picking outer leaves when they're about 2 - 4 inches tall, but leave at least half the leaves for continued growth. If you harvest a whole head of lettuce, cut it about 2 inches above the ground and it will regrow.
