Many gardeners look askance at us when we suggest using junipers in their gardens because they're probably thinking "generic, prickly, boring." Take one look at Mother Lode Juniper, and we're pretty sure we can convince you of how stunning and versatile an addition this specimen can be. 'Mother Lode' juniper is a prostrate variety topping out around six inches tall, and given time, can spread up to four feet wide. Bright yellow foliage in the spring and summer turns an amber gold when the temps drop. Imagine that cascading over the edge of a hanging basket, container planter, retaining wall, or on a bigger scale, a hillside. Add in all the reasons why people use junipers - evergreen, drought-tolerant once established, deer-resistant, and low maintenance - and you can see why we love this plant!
