Known as common juniper, this evergreen is anything but common in its durability, drought-tolerance, and low-maintenance.

Close'Green Carpet' Juniper (aka Common Juniper) is a slow grower, adding three to six inches per year, but eventually forming a four- to six-inch tall mat that may spread up to six feet wide. Due to its drought tolerance (once established) and deer-resistance, this juniper is an excellent choice for hillsides, retaining walls, and rock gardens. Its slow growth also means it's great as a cascading feature in year-round container planters and hanging baskets. Best yet, 'Green Carpet' juniper does indeed form a dense carpet of green foliage, requiring little work.
