Botanical names can be so confusing, especially when the powers-that-be decide to change those names. Isotoma fluviatilis, often known as Isotoma Laurentia, is best known as Blue Star Creeper, an apt moniker for a low-growing, spreading ground cover that is speckled with tiny blue star-shaped flowers from late spring into early fall. Small green leaves withstand moderate foot traffic, so this ground cover works well between pavers and along pathways, and lasts year-round. Only four inches tall but capable of spreading up to two feet wide, Blue Star Creeper makes a lovely trailer in hanging baskets and container planters. For best flower production, be sure to plant this specimen where it will get at least half-day sun.
