We associate Sweet Potato Vine with long trailing foliage. Not so this black heart-shaped variety. Perfect for shorter container planters!

CloseWe all love to see our plants thrive and live their best lives, but sometimes they can be a bit too vigorous for our needs. Consider the Sweet Potato Vine, a super-trailer if there ever was one, adaptable to sun or shade, and vibrant from spring to freeze. That's wonderful if you have a suitable container planter, i.e. extremely tall or placed where the vine can trail without hitting the ground, or hanging baskets. For those with limited garden space or shorter container planters, you now have Spotlight Black Heart Ipomoea, a more sedate version with yes, black leaves that mound to less than a foot, and spread 16 to 20 inches. This variety is as tough and care-free as its big sisters, and yes, it can certainly be combined with other varieties of Sweet Potato Vine. Spotlight Black Heart could even dress up garden borders.
