Its smaller size and fragrant flowers make 'So Sweet' a good candidate for container planters and hanging baskets.

CloseThis Plantain Lily has long been a favorite of shade gardeners and was the recipient of the Hosta of the Year award in 1996 from the American Hosta Growers Association. Deep green leaves edged in yellow form a vase-shaped mound about a foot tall and twice as wide at maturity. Wonderfully fragrant flowers appear in late summer, attracting bees and hummingbirds. All-day filtered sun or morning sun/afternoon shade will encourage more blooms while keeping the plant happy. Perhaps the main drawback of hostas is their appeal to slugs and deer, so consider growing 'So Sweet' in container planters or hanging baskets.
