This hosta may stay low to the ground, but its beautiful gold and green textured leaves will make it a standout in the shade garden.

CloseA garden could contain a dozen different plantain lilies, and no two would look the same. While some can reach three feet in height and spread, others form compact clumps less than a foot tall. 'Rainforest Sunrise' is one of the lower growers, with green and gold leaves reaching less than a foot tall, but spreading 18 inches wide. New growth emerges a pale green that morphs to a golden yellow center with darker green edges. If grown in deep shade, leaves will be a more uniform lime green, while partial sun will bring out the golden color. Slightly textured, this variety's leaves may not be as good at repelling slugs as the thicker leafed varieties. Lavender flower stalks are fragrant, and will attract hummingbirds just as much as the larger Hostas.
