Thick golden leaves edged randomly with blue-green margins are tougher than some other hostas, making it less appealing to slugs.

CloseHostas are often our go-to option for shade gardens, if only because of the vast array of colors, sizes, and textures of the hundreds of varieties available. 'June' Plantain Lily is a mid-sized hosta with gold-centered leaves and blue-green margins. Topping out at less than two feet and about as wide, this hosta is a great choice for container planters, hanging baskets, borders, or mass plantings. Its tall lavender spikes are almost homing devices for hummingbirds, so consider placing these where you can watch the bird action. As perennials, hostas will go great guns from spring until the first frost, at which point it dies back until next year. One caveat - slugs love hostas, both as a food source and as a cozy place to hide, so keep an eye out and act accordingly if you start seeing holes in the hosta leaves.
