CloseThere is an amazing number of hostas available to the home gardener, and some admittedly look very similar, but with differing traits, ranging from the thickness and texture of the leaf to the size of the overall plant, gardeners can easily have a dozen different varieties in their shade garden and none will look the same. Hosta 'Fire and Ice' is in the middle of the pack, with height and spread averaging one to two feet, and almost-white-to-cream-colored leaves edged randomly in green. A slight twist to the leaves adds textural interest to this mounding perennial, and is a wonderful addition to borders, container planters, and even hanging baskets. Hummingbirds will seek out the lavender flower spikes in mid-summer, and home gardeners will enjoy the fragrance.
