Hostas are often the saving grace for shade gardens, providing a vast array of sizes, colors and textures that most likely will accommodate any gardener's preferences. 'Blue Angel' is purportedly the biggest of the blue-leaved hostas, making it suitable as a focal point in the ground, growing up to 36 inches tall and about four feet wide. The blue color is most intense when the plant receives morning sun/afternoon shade, or all day dappled sun. White flower spikes stand above the foliage in the summer, acting as a beacon for hummingbirds. The 16-inch long leaves of 'Blue Angel' are heavily textured, a feature that slugs seem to dislike, but it doesn't make the plant totally immune. Although large, consider growing 'Blue Angel' in a large container planter to help foil slugs and what a statement piece!
