Named in honor of an English duke, Walter Buccleugh (buck-lew) is quite compact, almost one-third the size of most other hebes.

CloseHebes are so varied in their textures, foliage color and structure, it's often surprising to realize certain varieties are even in the same family. Walter Buccleugh is similar to many of its cousins with 1/2" long, red-edged, lance-shaped leaves and purple stems, but it's much smaller than most, often one-half to one-third the size of other hebes. This variety has reddish-purple flowers most of the summer, so is a welcome addition to container planters, hanging baskets, and borders.
