For those who like the look of boxwoods but want something different, consider Boxleaf Hebe, a compact evergreen shrub with small, glossy leaves and white flower spikes in the late spring to summer. Generally growing to three feet in height and two feet wide, this hebe works well in borders, in mass plantings, or as a low hedge in formal gardens. Its compact size makes it an excellent choice for container planters or large hanging baskets as well. Deer aren't usually interested in Boxleaf Hebe, but bees and hummingbirds love the flower spikes.
