'Sunflare' hakonechloa is a fairly new cultivar from British Columbia, and is well suited to our Pacific NW gardens. A bright green to gold grass that stands about 18 inches tall can eventually spread up to 24 inches wide. As temperatures drop, dark burgundy to burnt orange blades will intersperse the predominantly chartreuse leaves before dying down for the winter. Japanese Forest Grass is a multisensory addition to any shade garden, providing sound as the leaves move gracefully in the wind, and of course that bright color that will pop in the darkest of corners.
