Zonal geraniums are old reliables when it comes to long-lasting summer color. 'Tango Velvet Red' has the characteristic dark-centered leaves (fun fact: "zonal" refers to the dark zone, or center, on each leaf) and forms a tidy upright mound about a foot tall and wide. Give geraniums lots of sun to encourage all those spectacular blooms - you can't get much redder than 'Tango Velvet Red.' Use as a centerpiece of container planters or hanging baskets or line a sunny border with this easy-to-grow summer annual. Water and fertilize regularly for best results. Beware budworms however, as they love geraniums. If the foliage is healthy but the plant stops flowering, look for telltale black droppings/spots on the leaves or tiny green caterpillars.
