White summertime flowers morph into minty, pearl-like berries by the fall. Deer don't like them, but they are edible!

CloseWintergreen is one of those unsung heroes of the winter garden, providing a beautiful dense mat of foliage that serves to highlight the minty berries that brighten the darkest days. 'Peppermint Pearl' berries start out pink, then turn white as the temps drop, and contrast beautifully with the foliage that takes on a reddish hue. Beautiful in container planters and hanging baskets, it's also a delightful addition to borders and along walkways. Only six to eight inches tall and up to a foot wide, this wintergreen can be considered a ground cover.
