Oh, the color, and we're not just talking about the red and purple blooms. The lime green foliage on this hardy fuchsia really pops in the shade.

CloseWhile the annual fuchsias are often frankly flashy with their big, bright blooms, hardy/perennial fuchsias generally add a more subdued but equally pleasing color and texture to the shade garden. That said, 'Genii Fuchsia, aka Golden Fuchsia, provides a big splash of color with its lime green foliage and cherry red with purple flowers. Growing anywhere from 12" to 36" tall and up to two feet wide, this variety returns year after year, blooming from summer into the fall. Do a bit of late winter/early spring cleanup by pruning out weak or dead branches and cutting back the previous year's flowering stems to within two buds of the older woody portions.
