Though named for the appearance of ice-rimed leaves, Ficinia needs protection from low winter temps and inclement weather.

'Ice Crystal' Frosty Sedge is a unique, grass-like perennial that is often treated as an annual in the Pacific NW. Forming low, rounded mounds, 'Ice Crystal' has narrow, blunt leaves that seem to be edged with frost, but actually needs warmer weather and sun to thrive. Grow it in container planters or hanging baskets for a distinct textural and visual contrast to other sun-loving companion plants. A member of the sedge family, 'Ice Crystal' does well in coastal environments. Light brown flowers emerge on tall rounded spikes during the spring and summer.
