Icy blue, fine bladed grass provides year-round color and textural interest. If it gets too shaggy, give it a haircut in the early spring.

CloseBlue fescue is a clump-forming grass that is evergreen in the Pacific NW and does well in drier parts of the garden once established. 'Elijah Blue' is one of the bluest of fescues and holds up better in hot, humid weather than other varieties. If used in mass plantings, place less than a foot apart, as this variety tends to stay small, about a foot tall and wide. If, after a few seasons, the center of a clump dies out, simply divide the clump and replant. Shearing back the foliage in late winter will also encourage new growth in the spring.
