Give this fescue full sun for the best blue color though it can tolerate light shade. Great option for xeriscapes or infrequently watered parts of the garden.

CloseFescues are often a grass of choice for dry landscapes, as they add color, texture, and year-round interest with minimal fuss. 'Boulder Blue' fescue is a standout with frosty blue blades in a compact mound, growing about a foot tall and wide. Tawny brown seed heads, called inflorescences, appear in late spring to early summer, rising above the grass blades. Fescues need full sun to be their "bluest" and well-draining soil for best year-round looks. Once established in the ground, they are drought-tolerant and require minimal attention. Due to its compact size, Boulder Blue' fescue is a good choice for container planters and hanging baskets. Mounds of the grass can be raked lightly to remove dead leaves and seed heads, or if ragged looking, cut back the foliage in late winter, early spring to three or four inches, before new growth emerges.
