Eggplant is definitely a warm-season crop, so plant eggplant in the hottest spot in the garden, with a minimum of six hours of sunlight per day. 'Long Purple' eggplants can grow up to 10" long and the plants themselves can be three feet tall and two feet wide, so provide support for the plant. Harvest the fruit when it is no longer than 10" and the skin is still shiny. Harvesting of fruit encourages more production, so harvesting smaller eggplants is fine.
