CloseEggplant, like all other solanums, is a heat-lover, so pick the sunniest spot in the yard and if possible, plant it where it will get reflected heat. 'Black Beauty' is the classic, purple-black, globe shaped eggplant commonly sold in grocery stores, averaging five to six inches long and anywhere from one to three pounds each. To help support such heavy fruit, place a cage or other support around your eggplant start when first planted. 'Black Beauty' eggplant grows two to three feet tall and wide, and adapts well to container gardening. Harvest fruits while the skin is still dark and shiny; frequent harvesting will encourage even more fruits.
