CloseDracaenas are a staple of indoor plant life, bringing that tropical feel inside while also purifying the air of nasty chemicals. What most people don't appreciate is the plethora of varieties available. Dracaena marginata 'Magenta' has narrow strap-like leaves that are a deep green tinged with dark red. New growth emerges from the top, while older leaves arch gracefully downwards, creating a palm-tree effect. This variety can reach six feet in height, but it's not the fastest grower, so consider placing it in a container planter with other houseplants until it needs more space. Indoor gardeners may notice their dracaena leaning toward light sources and if it's not getting sufficient light, it may become spindly. It's normal for the bottom leaves to die off as they age, revealing more of the "trunk." That may not be a bad thing if there are pets around, as dracaena leaves are mildly toxic to pets if ingested.
