CloseMost Americans will recognize this perennial as a carnation while the British will call it a Pink. In either case, 'Fire Star' dianthus will indeed be a star in the summer garden with deep red flowers topping silvery gray foliage. Spreading up to a foot wide and growing to eight inches in height, this charmer is perfect for edging borders, in container planters or hanging baskets, and may be used as a ground cover for small sunny sections of the garden. Clove-scented flowers are cute enough to be brought indoors, and deadheading will prolong the blooming season.
