Give zucchini plants lots of room to grow, as they can get to be four to five feet wide, though "only" two to three feet tall.

CloseWhether growing green or yellow zucchini, both plants are large, lush, and typically heavy producers. The fruits have the best texture and flavor when picked small, no larger than 6" - 8" in length. The trick is finding them in all that greenery before they become monster-sized, and that's where growers of yellow zucchini may have an edge. Gardeners can also harvest zucchini blossoms, to be eaten fresh or fried. Taking just the male blossoms (narrower at the base than female blossoms) and leaving a few to pollinate the female blossoms should not hinder fruit production, unless you want to!
