A fast-growing variety that bears double, dahlia-like flowers in the spring and after the heat of summer, may bloom again in the fall.

CloseFrankly, clematis are something of a nightmare in the nursery because these vining perennials will start clinging to each other on the tables in the spring and if left for even two weeks, will become deeply attached to one another. That just goes to show how vigorous these plants are, and 'Blue Light' is no exception. With stunning pale blue double flowers that easily measure five inches across, this variety will quickly cover a trellis, arbor, fence, or pergola with its fresh green foliage that can climb six to eight feet tall and three to four feet wide. Keep its roots protected from the sun by planting small shrubs, perennials, or annuals at the base, and make sure the top is in full sun for best blooms.
'Blue Light' blooms on both old and new wood, so prune stems in the late winter/early spring back to two sets of healthy buds and again (lightly) after blooming in the spring/early summer to encourage more buds.
