CloseDiscovered in the gardens at Duke University in Durham, NC, 'Duke Gardens' plum yew forms a somewhat rounded shrub, three to four feet tall and wide at maturity. Plum yews are valued for their dark green evergreen needles and their tolerance for shadier spots, a condition adverse to true conifers. Drought tolerant once established and deer-resistant, this plum yew is a terrific specimen for smaller gardens and even as a low informal hedge, though patience will be required.
