Cannas may come late to the party but for many gardeners, the party doesn't start until cannas arrive. 'Tropical Bronze Scarlet' is a show-off with dramatic dark leaves and scarlet blooms, but unlike some of its cousins, it stays small enough (18 to 30 inches tall, 18 inches wide) to share a container planter or hanging basket with other sun-loving greenery and flowers. Planted in a border en masse, this canna will stop people in their tracks when in bloom. Surprisingly enough, this tropical looking perennial can handle our maritime Pacific NW weather as long as it has good drainage and is watered regularly during the growing season.
