Depending upon whose website you land on, Calathea Medallion is either easy to care for or challenging, even for seasoned gardeners. We lean toward the challenging school of thought, as humidity, light, watering and yes, fertilizing, must be just right for this showy house plant to really thrive. Related to the prayer plant family, this calathea, aka Rose-painted Prayer Plant, moves according to circadian rhythms, so leaves tend to fold upward at night, showing off the deep red undersides. During the day, large, almost fake looking leaves flatten out, flaunting their intricate patterns of green, red, and white. We think Calathea Medallion is well worth the effort, and is pet-friendly to boot.
