'White Queen' caladium is so striking, it has stopped people in their tracks when walking through our house plant section. Upright stalks bear heart-shaped, paper-thin leaves ranging in color from pale pink to white, with bleeding red veins and green edges. Caladiums are heat-lovers, making them great year-round indoor specimens, or shade plants for the summer garden. Though 'White Queen' is supposedly more sun tolerant than other varieties, morning sun or dappled shade is best when grown outdoors. Depending upon the environment, 'White Queen' may grow to two feet tall and about as wide. If it gets root bound after a year or two, it can be transplanted into a larger pot or the tubers can be divided to make a new plant. As is true of many tropicals, caladiums do best in a well-lit room but not direct sun, with higher humidity. Caladiums are also toxic to pets and humans if ingested.
