Blueberries are a Pacific NW favorite, and grow well in our climate. When the plants are small, they can be kept in large containers for at least a few years before moving them out into the ground. In either case, provide as much sun as possible; six hours plus is ideal for the tastiest and heaviest berry production. 'Chandler' produces the biggest berries of all the edible blueberries, starting sometime in July and into August. Enjoy them fresh or freeze for a wintertime treat in smoothies or baked goods. Cooking actually increases the availability of nutrients in blueberries, so consider using them in savory dishes as well.
