Valued for its dark good looks, Wild Magic also maintains a good flavor (similar to Thai basil) even after flowering.

CloseThis basil is so pretty, many gardeners may choose it just for its dark purple and green foliage. Growing 18 to 24 inches tall and wide, 'Wild Magic' sends up violet flower spikes in the summer that attract pollinators galore. Experienced gardeners know that once basil flowers, the taste of the leaves change, and not for the better, but because this variety's flowers are sterile, the foliage keeps its wonderful taste. Plucking individual stems will encourage new growth, making the plant more compact and dense, but leave at least a third of the foliage for continued growth. Plant this beauty in well-draining soil in container planters, hanging baskets, or in borders where it can get all-day sun, but water regularly.
