Thick leathery leaves without the typical spores found on the backs of fern fronds, so it's a tidy, though sterile, house plant.

CloseAspleniums typically have broad, strap-like leathery leaves and look unlike most other ferns. 'Austral Gem Bird's Nest Fern' sits comfortably in the middle, with the thicker, sturdier texture of aspleniums but with fern-like fronds on gracefully arching stems. Only a foot tall and wide, this asplenium is perfect for container planters, on its own or planted with other specimens that can live indoors year-round, or outdoors in the warmer months. It prefers shade when out in the open air, and a well-lighted room with indirect sun during the cold months of fall and winter.
