Massachusetts Kinnikinnik, aka Massachusetts Bearberry, is valued as a tough, attractive, evergreen ground cover, great for erosion control, and drought-tolerant once established. Deer tend to leave it alone, though pollinators and birds like it. Kinnikinnik works as a trailing ground cover, cascading over retaining walls or over the edges of container planters and hanging baskets. Bell-shaped, pinkish-white summer flowers turn into red berries in the fall and winter, adding another layer of interest to this reliable evergreen.
