Yes, 'Blue Boa' hyssop, or hummingbird mint, is indeed in the same family as mint, but its fragrance is a licorice or anise scent. Not a favorite of deer or rabbits, this perennial is a beacon for hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees once the three-foot tall, violet-blue flower spikes appear in mid-summer into the fall. The plant itself is over two feet tall and about as wide. Place 'Blue Boa' hyssop in sunny borders, wildflower gardens, cut-flower gardens, or in large container planters, and make sure the soil drains well, as it does not like soggy roots.
