Also known as hyssop or hummingbird mint, this sun-loving perennial sends up deep violet blue flower spikes from summer into the fall.

CloseYes, 'Blue Boa' hyssop, or hummingbird mint, is indeed in the same family as mint, but its fragrance is a licorice or anise scent. Not a favorite of deer or rabbits, this perennial is a beacon for hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees once the three-foot tall, violet-blue flower spikes appear in mid-summer into the fall. The plant itself is over two feet tall and about as wide. Place 'Blue Boa' hyssop in sunny borders, wildflower gardens, cut-flower gardens, or in large container planters, and make sure the soil drains well, as it does not like soggy roots.
