This Silver Dollar Fern is closely related to the much beloved maidenhair fern and has similar characteristics, such as its gracefully arching black stems and flat pinnules (leaves). Growing to about a foot tall and wide, the Silver Dollar Fern's new fronds emerge a dusty pink that gradually deepens to a dark green, and the leaves themselves are much larger than the dainty pinnules found on most other maidenhair ferns. Grow this one outdoors in the summer in containers that can be brought inside when the temperatures dip below 50 degrees F, or keep it as a year-round houseplant. Though it can tolerate lower light, it grows best in well-lit rooms with indirect sun.
