CloseWhen someone says mahonia, many Pacific NW folk will immediately picture Oregon Grape, an evergreen plant native to western North America and in some situations, rather invasive. 'Soft Caress' Mahonia is an entirely different evergreen - same genus but different species - with feathery foliage that resembles bamboo, and grows into a shrub wider than it is tall. 'Soft Caress' does best with some shade during the hottest time of the day, and bears yellow flowers in late fall to winter. Its wonderful texture makes it a great addition to container planters, and may also be used as an informal low hedge, or as a focal point in a smaller garden.
